Out of Place, or Right Fit?

Out of Place, or Right Fit?

America was excited this week for the return of American Idol, we love nothing more than watching a good train wreck! Okay, I guess the underdog story of a musician living on the street who turns into an overnight fame is pretty good too.  I was never really big on this show, but this year with the departure of mean old Simon, I was more tempted to watch then ever. Where would we find a replacement that would satisfy the blood hungry fans? Cue the still relevant, over the age of 60 rock star (Steven Tyler) and Jennifer Lopez. Not a combination I would have ever imagined, but I have to admit it got me to turn on the first episode.

Steven Tyler, I get it, you are a talented rock God, ladies love you, men want to be you, but I am not sure you are ready for the criticism that will lie ahead for you.  No one can argue what you have done for the world of Rock and Roll, album sales, speak for themselves, but I fear this world of pop under a microscope is a scary water for you to be treading.  You came off on the first show a little more than over the top, not everything makes a good joke! I want to enjoy your latest 15 minutes, and I am sure most of your lifetime fans support your endeavor as well.

Plenty of interviews with Steven have been popping up lately, he does show a lot of respect behind the idea of this whole concept, and a lot less respect for Simon Cowell whose seat he willingly is filling this season. (Simon, you do deserve a little bit of this..) I think Steven will prove to be a stand up guy, and great judge if he goes a little easy on the upstaging.

Is popular America ready for Aerosmith's famous loose large lipped front man? Maybe not, I think the jury is still out, but we are going to get 100% dose of real rock star this season, ready or not. (No, thankfully not the Bret Michaels type of rock star.) If nothing else I think the chemistry is there for this to be quite an explosive season, and at least I know I will be getting my viewing pleasure's worth of weekly Idol TV. I am curious to see what the finals will bring with such a super star judging panel, who will be performing on this already jammed celebrity season? Is there room for these guys all to share the spotlight? Can we expect an Aerosmith Week or even a live performance? Fingers crossed.
